Cartier Reports Data Breach Amid Growing Cybersecurity Concerns in Fashion Industry

Luxury fashion brand Cartier has disclosed a data breach that has compromised the personal information of some customers. In a notification sent to affected individuals and subsequently shared on social media, the company revealed that unauthorized access to its systems allowed hackers to obtain limited client information.

According to Cartier, the breach included customer names, email addresses, and the countries in which they reside. However, the company reassured its clientele that no sensitive information such as passwords, credit card numbers, or banking details was compromised. Cartier stated, “We contained the issue and have further enhanced the protection of our systems and data.”

The brand cautioned customers about the potential risks associated with the stolen data, urging them to remain vigilant against unsolicited communications. “Given the nature of the data, we recommend that you remain alert for any unsolicited communications or any other suspicious correspondence,” the notification read.

Cartier has informed law enforcement about the incident and is collaborating with an external cybersecurity firm to address the security breach. Meanwhile, BleepingComputer has reached out to Cartier for further details regarding the timeline of the incident and the number of customers affected, but has yet to receive a response.

This incident at Cartier is part of a troubling trend in the fashion industry, as other luxury brands have faced similar cyberattacks. In May, Dior reported a data breach that involved the theft of customer contact information, purchase histories, and preferences. In another case, Adidas alerted its customers about a breach linked to a third-party service provider, while Victoria’s Secret had to take down its website due to ongoing security incidents.
