The CEO of KiranaPro, an Indian grocery ordering application, has reported that a targeted cyberattack has resulted in the deletion of critical resources from the company’s GitHub and AWS accounts. Deepak Ravindran expressed his determination to identify the perpetrator behind this malicious act, which has rendered the app inoperable since the attack occurred last week.
KiranaPro facilitates grocery shopping from local convenience stores known as Kiranas, allowing users to place orders that are promptly fulfilled by nearby stores. According to Ravindran, the app plays a crucial role in supporting the livelihoods of thousands of Kirana store owners, managing over 2,000 orders daily. In a post on his X account, he stated that the attack was driven by personal motives, claiming that the assailant held a grudge against the company.
Describing the incident as a deliberate act rather than a random hack, Ravindran emphasized the seriousness of the situation, noting, “Our servers were breached, critical infrastructure was deleted, and sensitive customer data was compromised.” He reassured users that the company is taking steps to rebuild its systems with enhanced security measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.
The attack raises concerns about the vulnerabilities associated with insider threats, as Ravindran suggested that logs point to a malicious insider action. This incident highlights the critical importance of implementing robust security practices, including secure backups and authorization protocols, to safeguard against such breaches in the future. KiranaPro aims to restore its operations and protect its community as investigations into the attack continue. Interested parties can follow updates on this developing story through Ravindran’s X account, where he has promised to reveal more details about the hacker.
